There are different sort of Indian Railway Quota for Ticket Booking offline and as well as online. Train Tickets which we book are under general quota but when there are 12 different Types of Seat Quota in IRCTC for reservation of tickets.You'll be shocked that we get only 50% tickets for reservation other 50% are by default reserved for various people like ministers, MLA's, VVIP, Duty Pass, Ladies, etc.

General Quota (GN)

Genral Quota may be a regular quota and and you'll avail the seat as a traditional passenger, and it doesn't matter that you simply are a male or female. Tatkal Booking starts one day in advance excluding the day of journey.Ticket booking Booking starts at 10:00 AM for air-conditioned coaches and for non air-conditioned coaches tatkal reservation starts at 11.00 am.There is no RAC under this quota and once all seats are filled during this quota TQWL tickets are issued. There are not any provision for any sort of concessional tickets under this quota and same fare is charged for each sort of passenger during this quota.


PREMIUM TATKAL QUOTA (PT)

Premium Tatkal reserves seats with a dynamic fare pricing to book the train tickets. Premium Tatkal booking timings are same as Tatkal scheme and it's opened by 10.00 AM for AC classes and 11.00 AM for non-AC classes. The dynamic fare stands for the increased fare charged just for the confirmed passengers, and it's twice that the standard tatkal ticket charges. The rule for Premium Tatkal booking on internet is nearly an equivalent as Tatkal booking. Premium Tatkal ticket booking are often reserved beforehand of 1 day before the journey date.Users can book only E-ticket, the I-ticket booking isn't possible.No concession is avilable to the tickets under this scheme.Child passengers tickets are going to be charged with full fare. Users cannot book RAC or roll tickets under Premium Tatkal booking.

Ladies Quota (LD)

Ladies Quota is supposed to be a quota for girls traveling alone or with a toddler/child below 3 years aged.It is available only in Sleeper class and is present in most trains on Indian Railways.However, there are only SIX berths available under this quota within the ENTIRE Train. These six berths will always be together in one coach, usually the primary bay next to the door. To book a ticket under ladies quota, you'll need to select "Ladies" from under the Quota option on IRCTC (option available under an equivalent dropdown as General, Tatkal). If booking at a PRS counter, you'll need to mention on the booking form. This quota doesn't have RAC/WL, so once the six seats are sold out, the status will show "Not Available".Goes without mentioning that only ladies are often booked under this.

Lower Berth Quota / Senior citizens Quota(SS)

Lower Berth/Senior citizens is a special quota given to males of minimum sixty years age, and females of minimum forty five years age.we can book just for 2 lower quota passengers during a single PNR. It can only be booked for eligible passengers once they are travelling alone or along side another eligible passenger. (Maximum 2 passengers only). Railways reservation Lower Berth Quota is also reserved for a pregnant lady. This quota is compatible for those oldster,pregnant lady and keep them aside from rush of booking railroad ticket under general quota.Indian Railways gives concession  within the fares of all categories of Mail/Express/Rajdhani/Shatabdi and Duronto group of trains to Male oldster of 60 years or more and female oldster of minimum 58 years or more.The element of concession is 40% for men and 50% for ladies.If there are not any seats vacant in lower berth quota for senior citizen then they would be generally placed in General quota but they will be given the senior citizen concession.

Divyangjan Quota formerly referred to as physically handicapped quota is supposed for the physically challenged passengers. There are 2 sleeper class category berths earmarked in all trains for persons performing their journey on handicapped concession ticket. The person related to the soul as escort was additionally assigned the berth out of this quota.

HO Quota/Emergency Quota (HO)

Every train has some seats reserved under HO Quota/Emergency Quota, which are employed by high officials or the people that have some emergency travel like medical etc. HO quota is out there for anybody who can prove the urgency of the travel. But a fixed protocol is followed.To book seat under this Quota the protocol starts from the President of India and also includes permissions from Government Servants and may include other VIPs such as doctors etc.Since availability is restricted , the allotment is predicated on first cum first served and therefore the protocol ranking. If those seats not utilized then they're going to release them to clear WL/RAC passengers at the time of chat preparation.

PARLIAMENT HOUSE QUOTA (PH)

Tickets are often booked under the Defense Quota for official purposes like relocation or movement of forces from one a part of India to a different . Foreign Tourist Quota (FT)

Foreign Tourist Quota is used to  reserve seats for international tourists. under this quota seats can be booked  in almost all the important trains and in different classes.This is done to make sure that the foreign tourists can explore the multi-faceted India with none hassles.The International tourists can get the benefit of reservation under this quota  against Indian passes and their passport.Foreign tourists can book tickets in FT quota upto three hundred and sixty five days beforehand.


DUTY PASS QUOTA(DP)

Railways reservation Duty Pass Quota is supposed for railways staffs on duty. All those railway staffs that require to travel in trains to perform their duty have a requirement undergo which they will board the trains. Against the duty pass they will get reservations altogether the trains even Rajdhani trains. This pass is issued to staff members before their actual date of visit perform duty under Indian Railway rules throughout India. Some times these passes have limited duration during which they have to travel via train.


YUVA QUOTA (YU)

Yuva Quota provides reservation to the unemployed citizens, age can be between 15 years to 45 years and the person should have certificate by National Rural Employment Guarantee (NAREGA). The tickets for Yuva quota might be reserved on the overall reservation counters. The certificate is mandatory for concessions. The quota is applicable in only Yuva Trains.
